Wedding Date: November 18th, 2000
Where: New York City
Definitely one of the most lavish celebrity weddings estimated between $1.5 million and $2 million nineteen years ago. Back in the wedding planning stage, Catherine’s soon to be husband frequently stated, “whatever Catherine wants, that’s what she’ll get” (ABC News). Well, they spared no expense. The festivities started at the The Russian Tea Room the night before for the rehearsal dinner. The couple married at the luxurious Plaza Hotel in New York City. The wedding party took up whopping 130 rooms.
Catherine’s Christian Lacroix satin-sheathed wedding gown was custom hand-beaded and reportedly cost $140,000. Diamonds were hand sewn into her bodice with luxurious silk thread. The six foot long train was made with delicate chantilly lace.
The 10-tiered butter cream wedding cake was designed by Sylvia Weinstock, who is frequently referred as the “Leonardo da Vinci of wedding cakes”.
Her dazzling diamond tiara was her “something borrowed” from Fred Leighton’s collection.
Her 10-carat engagement ring was also a Fred Leighton creation – just a tiny bit less than the wedding cost at $1 million.
Celebrity guests included Goldie Hawn, Jack Nicholson, Meg Ryan and Danny DeVito, Oliver Stone, James Woods, and Ellen Barkin
Where are they now?
